Exploratory Practice – Original Idea

Notes taken based on my ideas, the following work was then produced
First Storyboard – Wasn’t sure how i wanted the idea to progress but wanted to explore my ideas visually
Second storyboard – Further developed and turned into an animatic. Having heard feedback, i didn’t want to have a scene of someone falling asleep and it turning into a dream but nonetheless I wanted to visually explore these ideas.

Using my previous ideas about an animation about dreams and this concept art drawn a while ago, it inspired my work and i took aspects from this work and fed it into my ideas and animation.

Exploratory Practice – Chair Idea

Some reference photos taken of my desk chair. The whole concept to my idea and felt like i could visualise my ideas with these photos. I wanted to capture the texture of my chair when designing the animation.
Storyboard created after taking my reference photos.
Test animation created in Procreate. I wanted to capture texture using the oil pastel brush and movement.
Another test i did, i would like to say this was even more textural and free handed.

RBGE Project Work

For my professional practice i chose the RBGE project – animating illustrated assests in a group with Victor & Aika. Below i will include our final outcome and work in progress.

First animatic produced, initial concept is a flip book through Chapter 3 of Planting with Nature, where it follows a step by step of planting a wildflower meadow.
Proof of concept – Turning our animatic into the real concept, with minor tweaks including more use of hazels illustrations. This video was presented to the RBGE team and feedback was given on how to improve and meet the clients criteria.

Feddback included:

  • Make the flip book Portrait
  • The background to the flower animation should be replaced by Hazels illustration e.g. Meadow to create more of flow
  • Currently feels disconnected due to variance in art atyles displayed
  • Potentially use the real book
  • They enjoyed the step by step, it promotes a nice message and encourages the viewers to get involved with planting with nature
Second animatic produced – it took into consideration the feedback and new approach. This will then be produced into the final concept.

Final Video for the project. We had some difficulties and it was more time consuming than we wanted it to be, we also didn’t have time to experiment with different types of binding, which perhaps isn’t that noticeable in the video but overall it was an interesting and new way of creating an animation. Perhaps in the future it having a more set schedule for this type of work would be important so that we have more time to edit or review anything.
